Theatre has been a critical part of our work with adivasi communities since the inception of Yakshi. Our theatre draws from adivasi performing arts and the philosophy of Augusto Boal’s “Theatre of the Oppressed”. We use theatre as a language for people to narrate their stories where people are the actors and spectators (spect-actors).
The recent play Bhutalli (Mother Earth) (2013) directed by N.Madhusudhan, member of Yakshi and performed by adivasis, dalits , shepherds and peasants; captures the relationship of these communities with Mother Earth. Since March 8th 2013 the play has been performed across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
